HOW TO IMPLEMENT WITHIN YOUR LIBRARY
Incorporating IT and HPT Practices
We will give you some tips on how to begin the Instructional Design process at your library. Whether you are looking to design a one-shot instruction session for a class or look at workflow within a department, we will get you started.
Molenda, Pershing and Reigeluth (1996), outlined the Instructional Design process in their article, Instructional Design Systems as this:
1.Determine projects that are appropriate for instructional design.
2.Conduct a needs assessment.
3.Assess the relevant characteristics of learners-trainees.
4.Analyze the characteristics of a setting.
5.Perform job, task, and/or content analysis.
6.Write statements of performance objectives.
7.Develop the performance measures.
8.Sequence the performance objectives.
9.Specify the instructional strategies.
10.Design the instructional materials.
11.Evaluate the instruction/training.
12.Design the instructional management system.
This process is not set in stone, but it is a great guide to follow. You can contact us for further assistance on any of these steps.
